I grew up traveling from Air Base to Air Base, being a member of a military family. We finally settled in Minnesota where I had the great fortune to sing in the Aitkin High School choir directed by Bryan Johnson. He continues to be a great source of inspiration. As a young person, I wrote songs and played my guitar.
My formal musical training began with Jim Alstott patiently trying to teach me how to play Bach on the piano. I tested his patience with each passing minute. After completing a bachelor degree from the University of Minnesota, and a master's from the University of Illinois, I eventually learned how to play the piano (well, a little better), and discovered more joy in composing. Dr. Tom Wegren taught me well when I was a struggling undergrad!
So eventually I managed to put together some choral works, some are published here, some by National Music Press. But mostly I still just play my guitar and sing a few sacred songs, to inspire others and myself.
